Better Days
04:17
|
|||
Dripping wet and windswept, I walked in from the storm
Which seems to just be rolling on and on
But I’ll take whatever weather; let it rain and let it pour
It’s just another thing that’s out of my control
Just take a second, disconnect
Don’t let the trouble stir your tranquil mind
Just take a second, take a breath
Let’s pretend, just for tonight
That all this chaos is just fine
Let’s unscrew the cheapest wine that we can find
And raise a glass to better days
Where all our worries slide away
Could be tomorrow, if I wake up by your side
The fire purrs and crackles, and invites me to the warmth
Your shadow gently flickers on the wall
And that heavy burden’s gone the second I walk through the door
Without you doing anything at all
Does ‘na’m byd o bwys pan wyt ti’n fy mreichiau i
Ac os ‘di’r byd yn dod i ben, jysd caea’r llenni a chanlyn y llif

Ignorance is Bliss
04:23
|
|||
I’m not sure if it’s me that’s talking, or if it’s the liquids I’ve consumed
Playing my tongue like a puppet, making me sing out of sync and tune
I’m afraid to sober up, ‘cause I’m afraid that I might find
I’m just a perspective shift away from losing my mind
It may not be reflected by real life
(But in my mind I’m doing fine)
It’s all rose tinted through these bloodshot eyes
(But in my mind I’m doing fine)
It may not be reflected by real life
(But in my mind I’m doing fine)
But in my mind I’m doing fine
I’m doing, yes, I’m doing alright
Style over substance unless the substance can be abused
No empathy, no heart on the sleeve of my slick designer suit
I used to sing sad ballads but these days it’s mostly meaningless rhymes
From the vodka addled vacuum of my mind
Yes, sublime; I’ve got heaven on my mind
And joy reverberating through my soul
Ignorance is bliss, and bliss is the only goal
And so I’m letting go of everything I know
To keep my conscience clean, a drink and a dance is all I need
The bright lights simply serve to deepen the shadows
Ignorance is bliss, and bliss is the only goal
And so I’m letting go of everything I know

A Suitable Lie
04:04
|
|||
Turn off the lights
And baby, come back to bed, don’t leave
Keep me company
Oh, these summer nights
Are far too long and far too lonely
Without you here
Just stay
Just reconcile with me
I’m running through a thousand lines
Trying to find a suitable lie
Hoping to convince you it’s fine
That I don’t want to be yours, I just want you to be mine
You’re stuck in my head
Like a simple and saccharine melody
Wish you were here physically
But you’ve up and left
Though your touch and your taste are still lingering
I know they’re just fantasies
You’re just teasing
Just keeping me on a leash
Maybe I’m drunk; my words tripping over my tongue
Perhaps my heart’s sunk a little to deep in this love
But your rhythms and rhymes play on a loop in my mind
Your rhythms and rhymes play on a loop in my mind
Are you playing my game? Or am I the one being played?
I’m losing my cool - resorting to tired clichés
We’re breathing in time; but is it by chance or design?
We’re breathing in time; but is it by chance or design?
I’m running through a thousand lines
Trying to find a suitable lie
Hoping to convince you it’s fine
That I just want to be yours, I don’t mind if you’re not mine
Your rhythms and rhymes play on a loop in my mind

Between the Lines
04:53
|
|||
A broken old toy, that once could be trusted
To bring the boy joy, now’s gathering dust,
And he’s onto something new
He’s dulling his thoughts with synthetic salvation,
And all that it cost was his imagination;
He’s blacking out the blues
He wasted his youth chasing the truth,
Now he’s lost and confused; running on fumes,
With nowhere to go -
So far away from home
Can you read between the lines?
Or are you scared of trying? Scared of the horrors you might find?
There’s more than meets the eye
But you’d rather go blind than look away from the light
An old polaroid - its colours all faded -
Depicting a boy expressing amazement
And curiosity
Now he’s a man, weathered and jaded
And that photograph is hidden away
In a chest, under lock and key
And as he grows older, with each passing day,
The colours become just different shades of grey
And all his wonder drifts away
A broken old toy, that once could be trusted
To bring the boy joy - he blows off the dust
And he’s onto something new
Read between the lines
Don’t be scared of trying - you might light what you find
There’s more than meets the eye,
But the best way to go blind is to look toward the light

Just Rock 'n' Roll
03:23
|
|||
It’s harder to discriminate the artists from the fakes
The melodies are lifted and the words are all the same
We’re all plastic poets too dishonest to just say
That we’re calling garbage art in a effort to get laid
Oh, it’s just rock ‘n’ roll
There’s no need to show you my soul
Oh, it’s just rock ‘n’ roll
I’ll talk in clichés; paraphrase the words that smarter men said yesterday
Affecting phony accents, faking authenticity
Primal rhymes and rhythms, no need for complexity
Manufacture truth to hit the audience in the heart
Honesty may be a virtue, but in lying lies the art
Oh, it’s just rock ‘n’ roll
There’s no need to show you my soul
Oh, it’s just rock ‘n’ roll
Who needs heart when you’ve got guitars? Who needs soul when you’ve got solos?

Modern Day Gods
04:42
|
|||
Clowns in fine suits, neither shrewd nor astute, expressing faux dissatisfaction
They don’t shoot blanks, they shoot flags that say bang; it’s all trickery - no actual action
Drawn to the spotlight like bears to a beehive
They’ll gladly be stung for some of the honey inside
In the blink of an eye, the ink is all dry
And the history’s now undeniable
A suit and a tie are no armour from ire
Still human, still fickle, still fallible
These modern day gods, they’ll smile and they’ll nod
But the cogs will rarely be turning
A roll of the dice deciding a life
But it’s fine, ‘cause it’s not there house burning down
The wordplay betrays a slapstick display where panic replaces the pratfall
Somebody’s puppets are our puppeteers, it’s been that way since time immemorial
Drawn to the spotlight like bears to a beehive
They’ll gladly be stung for that, mmm, sweet, sweet honey inside
Down it goes
Your hopes and your home up in smoke
As they laugh and they jape, ‘cause they can’t see the flames from their thrones

Seeing Stars
04:03
|
|||
I used to think of happiness as something you could buy
On the rocks or with a tonic, for a reasonable price
I’ve since seen my reflection in a dozen broken mirrors
But I’ve got this sneaky feeling that my bad luck’s just run dry
As we drove down unknown roads, the clock ticked away from midnight
Stopped and sat beneath the moon, no synthetic light in sight
The emptiness of the universe made us question who we are
B’t’you filled it up with meaning, and you left me seeing stars
We’ll take on the world, just you and me
Rewrite this clichéd script somehow
I’ve skipped to the end and the pages were blank
But that’s because we are the narrators now
I was getting drunk on spirits and writing serenades
To fabricated damsels that I hoped to someday save
But whatever inspirations I had drawn on, I’d still wake up
With a shit song, and hungover all the same
But you turned up out of nowhere, and you taught me how to feel
Not the love of lustful teens, but something tangible and real
And all the cheesy songs that I was once dead set against
Started moving me to tears, because they suddenly made sense
We’ll take on the world, just you and me
Rewrite this clichéd script somehow
I’ve skipped to the end and the pages were blank
But that’s because we are the narrators now
No longer beholden to dreams that aren’t ours
Not pawns on a chessboard, not crossed by the stars
We’ll take on the world, just you and me
Because we are the narrators now

Sticks and Shields
04:04
|
|||
There’s violence in the air tonight, it’s brewing up a storm
In the cold, we stand united, trying to keep eachother warm
The truncheons give percussion, but their beat’s not one of peace
It’s a hard macabre march advancing down these crowded streets
And arm in arm, we sing our anthems; arm in arm we cry
That we have won this war already because love is on our side
Though we know that love has never won a war before
If we stand strong and tall, we may just have something worth standing for
We prayed to any god who’d listen
“Help us find the peace we’re missing, please”
So sick of living on our knees
There’s violence in the air tonight, a riot on the streets
We’re spitting blood and desperate words through a cage of broken teeth
We’re all in love and all in war, all with our beliefs
So beautiful, so passionate, such a primitive release
And as the riot vans come rolling, and we scatter like leaves
The sirens sing a symphony to bring about the “peace”
Sixty sticks and shields against protesting pacifists
Just pleading for a respite from the riot police
We prayed to any god who’d listen
“Help us find the peace we’re missing”
We never had an answer given
‘Til we stood up and found a reason for
Love to win the war
